CZĘSTOCHOWA
Jasna Góra is a sanctuary and at the same time a monastery complex of the Pauline Order in Częstochowa. This is one of the most important places of Marian worship in Poland and a center of pilgrimage for Catholics. On Jasna Góra there is a picture of Our Lady of Częstochowa, and a substantial collection of sacred art works, mostly gifts from the faithful.
SALT MINE IN WIELICZKA
This incredible place was once described as being ‘as remarkable as the Pyramids and more useful’! Today it is a one of the most famous attractions in the Kraków area. Operating continuously for 700 years, the Salt Mine is visited every year by over a million tourists from around the world and is a „must-have” for tourists from nearby Krakow. It is a world-class monument, entered as one of the first twelve objects on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU
Auschwitz is a special place. Symbol of terror, genocide and bestiality of the 20th century. This is one of the most memorable lessons of modern European history. In September 1939 the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht. The camp was created by the Nazis in mid-1940 within the borders of Oświęcim, which was incorporated into the Third Reich by the Nazis. During World War II, it was a place of mass extermination of about a million Jews, Poles and other nationalities.
WARSAW
The Capital of Poland. Rebuilt after World War II practically from scratch, now is the administrative, scientific, cultural, and tourist center of the country. Each city has a place that is its showcase and a must-see on any trip. In Warsaw, it’s The Old Town which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List with the Sigismund Column commemorating the ruler who moved the capital from Krakow. WROCŁAW
The pearl of Silesia, with criss-crossed by many tributaries and canals of the Odra River, which form the dozen islands connected by 117 bridges. Must-see in Wroclaw is Ostrow Tumski – the oldest part of Wroclaw, with numerous Gothic churches, the most precious of them St John the Baptist Cathedral, founded in 1244, contains remains of the first, Romanesque church also Panorama Racławicka – Poland’s largest painting of battle scenes with a length of 120 meters by Wojciech Kossak and Jan Styka.And if we need a time for relax one of the finest, most picturesque places for spending time in Wroclaw is Botanical Garden and ZOO.
KRAKÓW
A visit to Krakow is a meeting with the most glorious era in Polish history. Krakow’s Old Town, along with Wawel Castle and the city’s Kazimierz district were placed on the First World Heritage List, created by UNESCO in 1978. Walk along the Royal Tract, from the Barbican and remains of the city defensive walls with the Florianska Gate, an important feature on the Royal Route leading to the Wawel Hill. On the route you pass buildings from different epochs and the Main Market Square with picturesque building of the Cloth Hall and St. Mary’s gothic basilica. In the center of the Main Market Square is shopping mall- „Sukiennice”. After seeing the most important sights in Market area continuing up to the Wawel Hill, where Royal Castle and Cathedral situated is. The renaissance Royal Castle where is the place of final resting of kings and Polish heroes in the royal crypts in the gothic Cathedral. In Krakow present also the Jewish part of history. The Kazimierz quarter was the Centre of Jewish religions, culture and previously a separate town.
WADOWICE, KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA
Follow John Paul’s II footstep and visit places closely related with the Pope’s life. See the Wadowice- place where Pope was born. His family home where now is a Museum. See the Market Square of Wadowice where stands the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Inside this church, in the Chapel of the Holy Family, stands the font where, on 20th May 1920, Karol Wojtyla, future Pope of the Roman Catholic Church , was baptized. We also go to see the Basilica and Culture and Landscape Complex of the Bernardine Monastery and Pilgrim’s Park in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska which has been a UNESCO World Culture and National Heritage Site since 2000. Kalwaria is well-known for its Passion mysteries and church festivities. You will also have an opportunity to see the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki- place connected with the worship of St. Faustyna. The church became a destination place for pilgrimages after visiting and consecrating by John Paul II.
PIENINY
If you need a little bit adrenalin take part in rafting trip along the natural border between Poland and Slovakia. The Pieninski National Park is unusual in many aspects. Its small area boasts a unique and natural landscape. The Dunajec River, which is a tributary of the Vistula River, has incised a narrow and sharply winding gorge in rocks. This is the most amazing part of the Pieniny Mountains. During rafting by wooden rafts led by highlanders is a time to admire of excellent view of the scenic surroundings of Pieniny Mountains with limestone rocks, summits of Trzy Korony and Sokolica and expansive forests. Also you must see ruins of Niedzica Castle definitely one of the most interesting buildings in the Polish part of Spisz, as well as one of the largest historical attractions in the Polish Carpathians.
